looking at getting a lil sennie

Postby oknuma » Tue Feb 16, 2010 2:01 pm

Hi all,

not sure if this is the right area.

I am looking at bringing a lil Sennie boy ( 4 months old) into the house. He is from one of only two breeders in NZ and although costly I really want him.

Are there any particular questions you would think i need to ask the breeder?

So far I know that his babies are not clipped
they are weaned onto a pellet, seed, fruit and veg diet
Harness trained
and very socialised

is there anything else I am over looking?

Male or female? Water bottle trained? Favorite treats? Health guarantee?

i know that he is a lil boy

didnt think about a health gaurantee, will ask thank you.
I have a list of his foods and fave foods
and water bottles are not something used here all that much. I personally am not a fan of anything other than the water tubes.

I agree with the health guarantee. Another thing you want to consider is how the bird will get to you. I don't know how far away in NZ the breeder is located. If you are going to drive to pick up the bird, you will need to make sure you have a carrier, or that the breeder will provide a carrier. I think it is best if the bird gets accustomed to the carrier before the day you bring it home so that the bird is not scared of the carrier. Being scared of the carrier may just give the bird more stress on an already stressful journey to your home.

ohh carrier, great suggestion thank you

the breeder is about 1.5 - 2 hours drive south of where I am in Auckland.
If we go ahead I will be going down a few weekends in a row to get to know him and the breeder as well. I will take my carrier down with me and it can stay there for a week or two before bringing him home.

well thought I better update you all.

I cant get this little man. The money I would have used has to be earmarked for a few other things first. Teh breeder however has invited me to visit and will rear me a lil one from the next clutch. So I stil have a sennie in my future just not the very handsome guy in my first post.
