Scents and Smells?

Postby EmberSanja » Fri Aug 01, 2014 3:15 pm

Before I actually get a feathered friend, I'd like to figure out what I'll have to give up. One of the things might be my scented lotions and such. I really like bathing items and I ask for big packs of them for holidays, and it includes things like bubble bath, lotion, body wash, and bath salts. Since I don't rely on a single brand and generally get what's cheapest or use what I get as gifts, I'm not sure about how my bird would react to the changing scents. Should I just avoid after-bath lotions and leave-in conditioners and such? Or are scented body washes in the shower bad also? What about scented shampoos/conditioners? What do I do that's best for the bird?

Thank you in advance! :D

Well I will give you my two cents. I would look more at the lotions and oils. Things that can come off of you and on to the parrot. Even perfume would come off of you. I would say if you put on perfume and plan on going out don't go by your parrot. Heavy smells are the ones. You can always skip a shower now and then for your parrots sake LOL.

Thanks for the advice!

I didn't consider the rubbing off factor actually. That makes a lot of sense! I will cut down on or even eliminate the lotions and leave in things. Definitely don't want my feathered friend eating that yucky stuff! Thank you again :hatched:

I use perfume and face lotions as well as hand cream, etc. All I do is put them on after I spend time with them.

I wish it would be as simple as that! However there probably won't be many times I won't be handling or at least very close to my bird, so I'll have to skip the lotions. I'm okay with that though! Anything for my feathered friend :danicing:
