Uh so she threw up on me...

Postby kikidee » Sat Aug 23, 2014 11:41 am

So this morning I let Navi out of her cage to run around like she loves to do. I was sitting in a chair so she kept coming over to my foot and stepping up on it. I moved it around and she seemed interested that it moved. Then she started moving her head back and forth and then threw up this clear concoction of seed and whatever else on to my toe...she hasn't thrown up since, so hopefully that was just regurgitation? I don't know why she did it to my foot though.

It is my understanding, that in the latter stages of weaning in the wild the parent places the food near the young bird, but it must pick it up.

Hmmm, keep an eye on her because the breeding season has been over for many weeks so she should not be hormonal enough to be regurgitating now (could she be on a human light schedule instead of a bird one?) - and I also don't like the fact that you could see the seeds because that means they were not been digested.

I also assume the breeding season shouldn't effect her as she's only 4 months old. She is on a solar sleep schedule, however she is sometimes kept up later because my parents watch TV till around 10 pm near her (however she is covered at this point after the sun has set and there aren't any direct lights on her). Maybe I should move her to a different room for that.
I was wondering about that too. Also, she sneezes once a day. Not a lot, but just once a day. Is that a bad sign?

Healthy parrots do not sneeze, it sounds like it is time to pay a visit to the bird doctor.

Oh no I hope it isn't anything serious. Is there anything I should suggest it might be to the vet that you guys might know? I feel like sneezing won't be a lot to go off of to figure out what it is.,

Ok new development... I think she might be a he because Navi kept climbing on my head and I think trying to breed with it...but shouldn't he/she be too young for that??!

I would tell the vet what symptoms that you have observed and let them do their job. As far as your new development, I am sorry, but I am unable to answer due to a lack of knowledge on this species of bird. Perhaps Pajarita can provide some insight here.

Princess parakeets are sexually mature between one and two years old (males maturing later than females) so your bird should not be masturbating or regurgitating at a mere four months of age. Are you sure the age is correct?

The store told me the hatch date is 4/20/2014. And he/she has grown some since we got her/him. Will the vet be able to confirm the age? I'll be taking Navi in either tomorrow or Friday.
