I love hamsters, they are the cutest thing! They can't compare to birds, of course - but, then, no other animal does, in my personal opinion.

Aww of course they don't compare but I love them all for their little quirks. Hamsters seem to have a reputation for biting but I never got bit once (ok I did once but I frightened the poor thing so totally not his fault). I can't say that of the birds lol- although listening to them does help a lot lol.

When the wings have been clipped,do the clipped feathers have to fall out and new feathers grow in or do new feathers grow constantly and eventually replace the damaged ones?

The clipped feathers have to fall out and this only happens once a year during molt (late summer and beginning of fall). But it takes more than a year because they only molt half their feathers every year.
