:pied: Sunny was the female of a mated pair that I rescued. I don't know why but :greycockatiel: Curley decided he did not want her any more even though they had been together for 10 years that I know of. He was really mean to her and even tore out her feathers. I separated them but she had battered wife syndrome and wanted to be with him. :( She really looked bad and I didn't know what to do. Since I was the caregiver my mother's nurses took time to get involved in my life. A solution came up. A nurse had 2 male cockatiels with room for more. I sent Sunny with her for the weekend. It worked out perfect. One of the males treated her like the most beautiful thing he had ever seen and did not care that she only had a few feathers. I was heart broken that the only way to save her was to give her up.

My daughter rescued :budgie: :budgie: Harley and Marley. They came to me in a tiny and filthy cage. I intended to rehab and rehome. I found another cage in my storage room and gave them good food which they did not eat. I put them near :swaying: Tweetle and he taught them to eat fresh food. Marley kept growing fuzzy feathers on her chest but then would pick them out. I am not a quitter but had to make a decision to ask for help. I am really grateful to Wolf for finding them a loving home and watching over them. It was really hard for me to accept that I was not able to care for them in the way they needed and had to rehome them for their sake.

With all my rescues those are the only ones I had to rehome and it was not easy. I really feel for you and your situation. My flock has room and like Myrtle, I have been searching for cockatiels who really really need me. Yours is safe and loved with you right now but if you can't find him a home and it comes to the time when you have to give him up I am willing to meet you half way. With my responsibilities that is all the time I can spare right now.

So what do you suggest I do? Ask to check up on him from time to time? I would check out the person's home and ask them many questions before they take my bird in. The reason I am rehoming him is because I know in the future there is going to be issues and I'd much rather have him be in a different home with someone who can give him what he needs as opposed to me being gone for weeks at a time because of work.[/quote]

I suggest you ask a million questions and pictures of the person's birds (you can check whether the cage is big enough, if they get fresh food, if they have toys, if they are in front of a window, in which room they are kept -it should NOT be the kitchen- if they look health, etc) and tell the person that you require updates and pictures of him in his new home (not forever, of course, but often at the beginning and more and more seldom until it's only sporadic).

Speaking of updates And not meaning to hijack this thread.

Liz; Harley and Marley are doing fine and are now eating gloop and fresh veggies and a little apple.

Pajarita; Keeta, what I call her mostly, is doing great as well she and Kiki, my Senegal will now both perch on opposite sides of me so I can have them out at the same time for one on one interaction.

I will give better updates later on.
