I have bought a parrotlet

Postby dexterlancer » Fri May 08, 2015 10:52 am

Hi

I have bought a parrotlet. The breeder told me that is around 5 weeks old. Do you think it's true from the photo? Is this a female. I am curently feeding her twice a day only. Am I doing it right? How much should I feed ml?

Thanks

There is no photo. Are you handfeeding her? If so, how much and what formula? Is it gaining weight steadily? Do you provide two kinds of soft food served fresh daily for her?

Yes I am hand feeding her and today she started eating millet spray.

I also have a large food bowl and I put some cockatiel mix in it and last night she slept in it.

My dear, she needs two kinds of warm, soft food served twice daily to wean properly. You can't free-feed seeds (plets don't eat a tiel mix, they should get a budgie mix but only for dinner) but, aside from that, you do NOT want to wean to seeds, you want to wean to good, healthy food.

I have a parrotlet and it looks to me like yours is begging for food. If you don't have anything else soft to feed it ( a weaning formula would be ideal) use a vegetarian baby food and some whole wheat bread mixed together and let the bread soak a few minutes so it is also soft and serve at just barely warm temperature. Old fashioned oatmeal cooked would also be an alternative, mixed with the baby food.

It does that right after I hand feed her formula but not for long. Maybe it's just to get attention.
