Cockatiel daily routine?

Postby BozidarL » Sat May 16, 2015 3:55 am

I just started thinking about my parrots daily routine and school is the main problem. Here in Croatia, most schools work in 2 shifts, morning one and afternoon one. I go to school one week in the morning and next week afternoon. In the morning I gotta be in school at 7:45 AM and Im home at 2 PM and afternoon I go to school at 1 PM and Im home at 7 PM.
This is what i came up with:

7 AM - Waking up
7 - 7:15 - Letting her do her wake up routine
7:15 - 7:25 - first training session
7:25 - 7:55 - first feeding
7:55 - 1.45 PM - I dont know should I take out the food or leave it in the cage*
1:45 PM - 1:55 - second training session
1:55 - 2:25 - second feeding
2:25 - 7 - I dont know should I take out the food or leave it in the cage*
7 - 7:10 - third training session
7:10 - 7:40 - third feeding
7:40 - taking out the food and moving the cage into sleeping room, sleeping room preparations
8 - letting her go to sleep

Tell me what you think and what HAS to be changed.

* I would like to train her with millet spray - she has to be hungry in order to eat it :/

I probably wouldn't do a trick training session so early in the morning - i think during that 10-15 minuets before breakfast you could do recall and flight training to help replicate the flight they would take to get from the roust to the food. (and to help sunny get her strength back) rather then flight training yet as such, you could look up other training methods to help her wings.

Leave a small portion of seed in the cage while you are gone. your parrot will have the option to eat, but not overeat :)

When your home, how often can sunny be out of the cage? At the moment, i realize she wants to be in her cage, but you should give her the option at least every hour to come out and spend time with you, or where she feels like being, etc... Feeding her out of the cage is a great reason for her to want to be out of the cage, but don't force her to. If shes not interested after five minuets, feed her in the cage.

You need to spend a couple of hours just keeping the bird company for bonding (this is called one-on-one time and it means you let the bird out and sit next to it talking, singing, whistling to it and, if the bird is willing, let it ride your shoulder) and you need to allow her about 4 hours of out-of-cage and flight time (nobody likes to live in a jail cell).
