How hot is too hot?

Postby Hookturn » Fri May 29, 2015 9:20 am

I have a baby sun approx. 6 mos old. Low protein diet, solar schedule, lots of out of cage time. I recently relocated to Las Vegas. I have a large outdoor aviary and he loves it outside. If we're outside, he's outside. That was fine for the last couple months, but now it's getting hot and I've been keeping him inside once the temp hits 90. Can he safely be outside in higher temps? I called a couple local rescues and they were no help at all. Thanks for any input.

Well, I guess it would depend on the conditions... For example, if it was just a few degrees over 90, the bird had a large shady area and some source of 'misting', it should be OK for a couple of hours (I doubt a human would stand more than that in that heat!). I know somebody in Australia that has a soaker hose running through the top of all his outdoor aviaries so, when it gets hot, he turns on the faucet in order to provide a constant cool shower in them.
