Nice looking bird! I can't tell you what sex it is by looking at it. There are some people who can, but it is too young even for them to do so yet. I do know that the pearls will gradually go away after it reaches adulthood if it is a male and that the cheek patches will get to be a brighter orange if it is a male. The pearls can take a couple of years to disappear after it is an adult. I understand that if it is a female that the cheek patches will get lighter and the pearls will remain after adulthood if it is a female.
Just enjoy your new friends company and build your relationship for the next couple of months before concerning yourself too much with training.

He is really bonding to you. It is a shame that he is an only. He won't like being alone when you are not there.

The only way I can tell the difference with cockatiels is that the male sings and the female tweeters.

What ever it is it sure is cute.

Thanks guys! !
Liz,I am not looking to get a male/female,anyway a company to my bird, cause I read that when they are alone they bond to humans much better, than when they are in pairs,so in pairs they bond to each others.. If it is not the case, well I might think to get a second one.. why not! :greycockatiel: :greycockatiel: But not at the moment, finiancial thing lol

Just so you have more information. It is true that a bird will bond to you closer if it is alone, at least it is true to some degree. It also depends on the species of parrot involved. It is mostly true with other, larger and more aggressive species of parrots, but not so much with cockatiels, The difference with them is primarily when they first come to live with you while they don't yet trust you but then after a while I don't think that you would notice any difference. Also it really is of no importance when they are this young as they all rebond after puberty and that is the bond that actually matters as that bond can last a lifetime.
Just thought that you might like to know.

Because they have a buddy they feel a lot safer and will have more confidence to interact with you. Of my rescues, and there have been a few, the singles have a harder time adjusting. Pairs have each other for comfort and are a lot braver. Sometimes both try to make contact at the same time. The family of 4 that I rescued were interesting. The parents accepted me right away and had to teach their kids that I was okay. The male escaped, and I don't know how, and left Jackie after 10 years together. She fell back to the bond with her kids and still claims me. I was really glad that I took the whole family.

Thanks liz for the story,I will try maybe to get him a female,if he's gonna be a male during my summer vacation.. I would love to have some babies and take good care of them, and then give them to some people that are looking to keep tamed cockatiel, here in Lebanon we don't have too much of good breeders..

Wolf, that is what I am most scared of.. I am trying to search and search on google but I couldn't find any good article about post puberty about cockatiel,do all these cute cockatiel and friendly and cuddly come from PRE puberty ones? or the bird will pass through a crisis and then will calm down back to normal?? Some say that it will never be like before and some others says that it is a period and it will pass, and everything will fall into place.. Is the best part of a parrot "pet life" during the first few months? and then it will be kind of a "rude" -wild bird??

Thanks guys!

Most of the time I don't know how old my rescues are. I have never seen one go through puberty or if I did it wasn't that much different. I can't imagine any cockatiel being rude or mean. If it bites you did something wrong. There is nothing sweeter than a cockatiel.

Think of puberty in cockatiels as being pretty much the same as in humans. When you were young you thought like a child, then you went through puberty and now think as an adult. A bird goes through the same thing and can be just as sweet and loving afterwards as it was before.
