building a bird safe home?

Postby Pandoradolls » Thu Jun 18, 2015 3:45 am

hi everyone, I will be moving to a new apartment soon and i am trying to pick my furniture and decor in a bird-friendly matter. apart from concealing all cables, picking sturdy closed furniture, avoiding clutter and fluffy rugs, providing a proper cage area and avoiding bare glass and windows, what else should i keep in mind?

Only two things come to mind for the apartment dweller at the moment and these are parrot are like giant termites when it comes to wood work and such they love to chew these things. The other is that other people may not share your addiction to a parrot screaming to you when you leave or arrive home or any other time if feels like it.

i am lucky enough to both have a very large and very sound insulated apartment. on top of that: both my top and bottom neighbor don't live there all year, they bought the apartment for residing along the cost line when going on a holiday… so i think that will be ok. as for the wood: i am aware there is a chewing risk, thats why I'm trying to avoid 'toxic furniture'

Sounds to me like you have it all together. Perhaps looking for little nooks and crannies that they could hide in and/ or get stuck in ?
