3m. old Cockatiel ESCAPED

Postby od94 » Fri Jul 10, 2015 6:08 am

I have a very bad news!!
Tuesday afternoon I had my friend to come to my place for a movie night,we were on the balcony, and tweety(My cockatiel 3months old) IS CLIPPED! I wanted to give my friend the bird to handle it and Tweety went afraid and opened his wings and found himself out of the balcony boundaries.. and he went with the wind,afraid...

I am trying to locate him.. but it is not as easy as you think,I didn't have a clear visual where he landed,Tuesday night(around 7:30pm )after I lost him I heard his voice while approximating his location so as Wednesday at sunset I also heard his voice, for some reason I can only hear him on sunset,I tried to play records of cockatiel on a dock while walking in the location.but they don't seem to work.. I assume he is young to whistle much,he whistle a couple of times and then nothing(and only on sunset).. not enough time to follow the sound..

I have been waiting to listen for him every sun rise and sunset.. I feel really bad about myself and what I have done.. I am thinking today to take his cage and place it In the approximated place where he is; maybe he will get a bit encouraged to come down or come near..he is surely hungry and in need of water.. but it is really confusing first I don't know his exact location, second if he is still alive.. really confusing..
I am getting really hopeless and feel bad about myself that's the worst thing that could happen
PLEASE WHOEVER IS READING THIS NEVER TAKE YOUR BIRD OUTSIDE NEVERRR
This is a sketch about the situation, the red "line" is the trajectory of the bird.. the red zone is where he is supposed to be..(not sure also, but I heard his voice there)

again this is a picture from the balcony from where he escaped..

I also talked to all the neighbors and told them about the bird.. THAT SUCKSS!!

Please if anyone has any advice on how to proceed I will be really grateful

this is tweety:

It is not that you can't take your bird outside, it is that you don't take your bird outside unless it is wearing a harness or is in a cage. Clipping a birds wings in the attempt to make the bird safe for the environment is an illusion at best and the remainder of the time could very well be a death sentence for the bird as its only means of escaping danger is compromised.
You know all of the ' Well you should not have' things that can be said and there is nothing like helplessly watching you bird flying away to burn these things into your heart and mind, I know because I had to watch it myself with my Grey. With the sheer number of predators both on the ground and flying about my area, I was very fortunate to recover her.
I would not be looking for my bird only in the evenings, I would be scouring the area day and night trying to find my bird and I would be even more frantic about it if my bird were clipped. And at this point all I can do is to encourage you to get back out there and hunt the bird down and they are difficult to see so go slow and look closely. You may still be lucky enough to find your bird.
When you can't be searching call local vets to see if they have heard of someone finding a cockatiel, put it on the radio, hang fliers, whatever it takes. but above all unless you have the bird in hand dead or alive, do not give up.

Hey Wolf and Pajarita :)
The problem I live in Lebanon and there is no much facilities here.. I contacted and visited all the neighbors and told them about the bird.. hopefully!

I placed the cage where I was listening his voice hopefully something will show.. I am going back right now and sit till 9pm,and wait... with a record playing..
I hope today I will listen him again.. yesterday I didn't hear him at all,Tuesday and Wednesday I was able to hear him.. hopefully today I will be able to hear something from him again

It's a female, not a male and they don't call as much as the males do...

Pajarita: I think it was a male from his behavior and from his excessive vocalization at my place, but he was still young and didn't have his molt.(they call it like that lol?) in order to have the adult color
Unfortunately Tweety was never found.. Yesterday I surrendered.. I talked to all the neighbors if he is gonna be found and the neighbors are kind enough they will call me they have all the information..

JUST PLEASE! CLIPPED OR NOT! SPECIALLY HAVING A CLIPPED BIRD IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO TAKE YOUR BIRD OUTSIDE.. EVEN IF YOU THINK THAT'S OKAY HE LOVES ME HE WILL NEVER LEAVE ME..

PLEASE KEEP YOUR BIRD INSIDE OR TAKE HIM SECURELY OUTSIDE!

A clipped bird can fly down. Once on the ground it cannot fly back up to escape preditors.

The bird knows your voice. You call him.

Hopefully, somebody took it in. I still think it was a girl because of the many and very distinct pearls, cinnamon males could have pearls when babies but they are very faint and, of course, they lose them by the first full molt. As to gender-specific behavior, juveniles don't really have any because they are not sexually mature (gender-specific behaviors been a secondary sexual characteristic).
