Vacationing + Parrot

Postby NathanDesnoyers » Tue Jul 14, 2015 4:10 pm

Hey guys, still new to the forum here and have a question about going on vacation.
My gf and I are planning a trip for 3 days.
Unfortunately i cannot bring my little man Rio with me (1.5 yr old senegal)
So ive made plans with a friend to stop by twice a day to feed, change dishes and droppings)
And to cover his cage at night.
Is this bad? Would i be a bad person for doing this lol im still new to this world so i figured id ask.

Rio isnt good with other hands so unfortunately he wont be able to come out and play but he has plenty of toys in his cage and his home is a large cage.

It's not a matter of you been a bad or a good person, it's a matter of whether it's a good or bad idea and, if you ask me, it's a terrible idea. You've only had your parrot for a couple of weeks, he hasn't even begun to feel comfortable in his new home or to trust you so leaving him all alone with a complete stranger coming over once a day to feed and water for three whole days is a real bad idea, my dear. Parrots never do well on their own for hours and hours - even when they have been with us for years and are perfectly comfortable in their home and even when they have other birds to keep them company (I am going to be out the entire day when I drive 4.5 hours each way to meet Wolf but I will be here for their breakfast, their dinner and I have somebody coming over at noon to check on them because, with birds, things can go south real quick and you need to act immediately). But to do it when you've only had him for days and he is still confused, depressed, mourning the loss of all he knows and all stressed out about it to the point of been aggressive with you is the worst time for it. Please reconsider. Taking your vacation in the future is not going to change things that much for you but abandoning him now can have lasting consequences for him (and you).
