Hi guys please help Indian ringneck doesn't like the cage!!

Kiwi my Indian ringneck parrot who is 9w old doesn't like to be in the cage!!

is currently flying, climbing and going into the corner to bite on the cage and is actually taking off the paint..im really worried that she may might poison herself as its getting too much now
..

Shes young i know, i have been speaking to her and reassuring her but she just wants to be out..i have only had her for about 5 days, she is tame amd has taken very well to us, she flies over to us and flies over to her cage too so she knows that its her place..

Any advice on how to calm her?? I have put.a few perches, some food which she doesn't touch as shes still weaning so i end up putting some fruit and ontop of the cage while shes sitting on top..she has a little nibble but its still early days

Well, if the parrot is taking the paint off the cage, you NEED to buy a good cage NOW because the one you have is not meant for parrots and she will end up with metal poisoning in no time at all. As to her (was she DNA'd a hen? because you can't tell the gender when they are that young) not liking her cage... well, would you? I know I wouldn't. People often think that birds 'belong' in a cage because it's their 'home' but birds don't live in homes, they live in trees and the whole sky is their home so, taking this into consideration, is it any surprise that they don't like been in a cage? Especially when they are alone in there? Now, if you let her out at dawn, put her back in it for her breakfast, let her out again, put her back in for her noon rest and some food, let her out again for the entire afternoon and then put her back for her dinner when the sun is halfway down to the horizon, she won't mind at all. Put perches on the outside and top of the cage as well as different places throughout the house and just let her fly back and forth.

Be careful how you wean. It's imperative that they have two different kinds of soft food (I recommend gloop heavy on the grains for extra protein and one other kind) served fresh twice a day as well as fruit, veggie, leafy green as well as some soft seeds and/or nuts in the evening. Babies need richer nutrition, more feedings and softer foods than adults.
