Dna'd test help

Postby Parrotkeeper02 » Tue Oct 13, 2015 11:45 pm

I have done the forms for a dna test on my lorikeet they asked me to pluck a feather from my lorikeets tail or primary covert from the wing. I don't know how to do it and I don't want to hurt it they don't do dna tests at the vets either.

I have never done this either as I had my vet do the DNA testing for Keeta, my parrotlet. I do know that it is not painless as they are wanting the little bit of tissue that remains on the feather when you pluck it out. Pajarita can probably tell you how to do this.

I've also never done one of those tests (I don't like hurting them). I always ask the vet to put a little bit of blood in the vial they send you for that purpose when he/she is drawing blood for tests.

But, if you are going to do it, I would assume it's just a matter of grabbing the feather firmly and pulling hard and fast.
