Thankyou :) I am trying to cut back the seeds so I have made some treats with harrisons potency fine pellets with applesauce (I know applesauce isn't the greatest thing :o but it gets her to eat anything) I'm just struggling with the veg because she's a very fussy eater :) I will start some more research today, haha research is so much fun for me, learning new things about my feathered friend. I will try to do the best for her :) thankyou very much

I suggest you do more research on their natural diet and on pellets, especially the High Potency which, until fairly recently, had a warning that they were to be used temporarily for sick birds or birds that had had a very bad diet for a long time. Now (and I don't know why) they are recommending them as an every day food but, for what I can see, the nutritional values are the same so I am a bit puzzled about this...

GCCs are mainly fruit eaters in the wild and that means low protein, high fiber, super high moisture (90 - 95%) and vitamins and minerals not only natural but also in perfect harmony with one another (the wonder of nature!). Pellets, and most especially the High Potency are super high protein, very low moisture, wrong kind of fiber (not all fiber is the same) and lab made vitamins (and soy which I don't feed to any of my animals) - in my opinion, the complete opposite of what a GCC eats in the wild. I've had four GCCs (all came to me as adults and all because they bit and/or screamed), I rehabilitated and rehomed three of them and kept one that is bonded to an old, severely handicapped wild-caught peach fronted that used to be breeder and I fed all of them the same thing: gloop with raw produce for breakfast (a LARGE piece of fruit, small veggie and a leafy green) and all day picking and a small portion of a good quality low protein seed mix for dinner. In my opinion, that is the closest you can get in captivity to what they eat in the wild. A low protein diet with lots of fruits does wonders for a GCC's mood and health. Of course, you also need to keep them to a solar schedule and spend hours and hours and hours with them on you because they are as needy as a cockatoo when it comes to attention... They are one of my favorite species, actually, they are so lovely, cuddly and affectionate but they are also VERY demanding little birds to keep as companions.

You seem very experienced :) I'm happy to have a forum like this to help me with my feathered friend :) hehe :) he's going for a checkup soon so I'll see what the vet says about her diet. (I've found something that she really enjoys and I've posted a recipe for it :) )

If I may, take the avian vet's advice on diet for what it means which is not an expert advice (not that anybody really has an expert advice on every single species of parrot!). Avian vets don't study parrot nutrition, they study physiology, anatomy, pathology and anything related to disease or conditions so they are doctors of the body but not nutritionists. And you need to take into consideration that there are hundreds of species all of them with different dietary ecologies! There are avian vets that don't even have birds of their own so their experience is limited when it comes to diet. Your best bet is to go to what they eat in Nature and try to reproduce it - not so much in terms of actual food items but in the nutritional values like amount of protein, moisture, carbs, vitamin/minerals, fiber, phytonutrients, etc.

Start a reply and press 'upload attachment, it will then offer you to choose file, do this and press either take photo/video or choose existing. If you use choose existing you may need to resize the picture depending on how large it is... :danicing: So it would probably be easier to take photo/video :)

When I take pictures of my birds I upload them to my computer and use Windows Live Photo Gallery to resize the to 640 pixels on the longest side and then they post just fine on the forum. If you cant get them to load PM me and let me know. I will give you my e mail address and you can send me the pictures and I will post them for you.
