Why does my gcc cling to the sides of the cage at bed time?

Postby Pidgeon » Thu Jan 07, 2016 2:23 am

My gcc comet sleeps clinged to the side of his cage facing my bed the whole night when i leave the room he goes onto his perch then when i go back into my bed he climbs back to the front to cling onto it again. Its worrying me a little bit. Any help is appreciated thanks! :gcc:

It actually sounds as if he is watching you, but I could not say why. Due to the way their foot works it is very doubtful that he would fall, so I don't think that needs to be a big concern. You could try giving him a happy hut and see if that helps, if that does't , then as much as I dislike it you could try covering the cage. The drawback to covering the cage is having to get up and uncovering it before dawn.

Awwww, poor baby is lonely and wants to be close to you! Do you expose it to dusk without artificial lights and then cover the cage with a black-out material? Because, if you do, it will go to sleep in its high roosting perch (it does have one, right?) and sleep all night long.

I got Shadow and Lemone' from an over crowed breeder. They slept hanging on the side of the cage. The only thing I could figure was that at the breeders they did not have perch space and just got used to it. After about a week they decided it was safe to find perch space.
The fact that he is facing your side and goes to perch when you leave the room sounds more like a separation problem and he is wanting to be as close as he can. Can you move his cage closer so he can perch and still feel near you? The next solution would be to put him out of your room at night but I would not do it if it was me.
