Eclectus

Postby GrindStone » Tue Feb 02, 2016 8:08 am

I have had my eclectus for about 3 years now, it was all fine in the start and he was such a sweetheart, but when school started, it made me busy and i didnt get to take him out everyday, about once or twice a month only, but we feed him everyday, ( fresh veggies and fruit, and occasional nuts&seeds), Now sometimes he gets aggressive around me and doesn't let me take him out of his cage, and sometimes he lets me touch him and take him out, but im getting a feeling he doesnt trust me anymore, how can I regain his trust again? I really miss playing with him..

Time and a more consistent routine, a few nice treats should help you along your way. Don't force him to do anything, let him take his time to learn to trust you again.

Birds need to come out daily not just twice a month so it's no wonder why he is frustrated with you.

Marie is 100% correct. Parrots need to come out every single day for, at least, 4 hours. You are keeping him in solitary confinement as if he was the worst criminal so it's no wonder he no longer trusts you, my dear. Start by establishing a strict daily routine where you open his cage and let him come out on its own and spend time with him (talking, singing, etc). As soon as he realizes that you are trying hard to win him back, he will trust you again. The other thing you need to do is keep him to a strict solar schedule and not feed him too many seeds/nuts because these birds have very long breeding seasons in the wild and can become aggressive when hormonal.
