playing toys problem

Postby ladydana » Mon Feb 22, 2016 3:15 am

my jardine's parrot just comes home for 1 month.
but he doesn't play toy when i am not here. example he is in my bedroom. he will play his toy when i am here. and sometimes he will drop his toy and tell me to pick it up. he will play with his toy so happy and excited .

however he never play them in his cage. it will bites the cinnamon that i gave him , but i dont want him to eat this everyday. he loves to play the destroyed toy so i buy him lot and always changed some new toys to him. i am glad he will share with me. but when i am at work , he need to be alone without playing his toy.

is anyone bird will be like this ? how to encourage him to play his toy himself. i tired to buy a new toy , give him play a while and dont give him again , until he back to his cage . or reduce his toys in outside. it doesn't work too . :irn: :irn: :irn:

Parrot toys

You never know what your bird will claim as a toy. Myrtle claimed plastic bottle caps and plastic shower curtain rings with anything hanging off them.
You could put some millet in a little crumpled piece of paper. I also wash and dry little clear plastic bottles then put a treat inside for the birds to find a way to get it out. I put the lids back on Myrtles bottles since she likes to remove caps.

i tired to use my mobile to reply your post b4 , but now i checked it have not post any !
thank you for your inspiration ! i buy some toy is quite expensive.... because the wood and the colour are all natural for birds. but he seems doesn like it . and i try to give him some recycle paper to make like a ball it is his favourite . i try to give him plastic ball , but i can see he is chewing on it .... i am afraid to give him some plastic material now

I rarely give my parrots plastic things to play with because some of them can chew the plastic into tiny pieces that they could swallow or they break pieces off of them which leaves sharp edges and some of them are also small enough for them to swallow and in both of these cases it could easily harm my birds so I keep with wooden toys or cardboard or even paper that they can shred and tear up.

Plastic bottle caps are really sturdy. I see bite marks in Myrtle's but no pieces missing.
