I have told her that those two pick on her just to make her scream. Rambo used to hide behind the toilet then jump out to make her scream. Myrtle pulls her hair as she flies by to make Aunt Betty scream. I have told her that they do it just to make her scream and that they would get board and stop if she would just stop screaming.
Aunt Betty is a stubborn old woman who will always do just the opposite of what I tell her.

 Aunt Betty sounds like a heck of a lady!

And all I can say about noises vs silence and parrots would be to gently experiment? By gently I mean the obvious: observe them and listen to them but if they seem uncomfy, change or try something else. When I tried to see how Simo reacted to silence I didn't keep it up for long because it was apparent he was not happy with it.

You did well. When I go outside to do things that I can't take the birds or when I leave or if I get to take a nap I always put on some music for them. They do have each other to talk to, but I still give them some music as they all love music.

I have seen this to, Shrek will scream (scared) and Tilly will be really jumpy and flighty if things are too quite, If things are noisy they either happily listen or join in.

I am wondering if parrots have a prefrence to different types of music? Based on the dancing parrots on youtube they will dance to anything boppy... But I think Tilly likes soft music because she sort of sings along to it, Shrek however dances to boppy music a bit.
Sorry if I am invading the post with my silly questions Viatrixa... I have one more... If Shrek screams Tilly often will scream back until Shrek stops, I can't figure out if Tilly is screaming for Shrek to stop, or screaming because she is 'worried' too?

Tilly is joining in the fun that Shrek started.
Mine copy each other when one screams so does the other. I don't mind when they are yelling back and forth with "hellos" and other words but the screaming can cause deafness. I have lost 30% of my hearing and have to wear hearing aids now. Needless to say I do not wear them while near them.
Rambo love Riddick, his favorite dog, and will call him with "c'mere Riddick" and "c'mere boy". I don't think Myrtle even knows who or why Rambo is calling but she will join in calling him.
Before I knew better they were free choice fed with nuts and seed. They would be eating when I got up and saying "dah dah" back and forth while eating. I don't know if dah dah means anything to them but they were adding noise to a quiet house.
Myrtle likes any kind of music and will "baby blabber" along with it. Rambo does not seem to care for music and does not respond to it.

I think that they have their preference in music and just like us they like one music when they feel one way and they like a different type of music at different time. Mine appear to prefer light rock most of the time but sometimes they prefer hard rock or pop or even jazz, they don't seem to like much of the older cry in your beer type of country/ western or blues. Mine like music with a good dancing beat to it most of the time. Mimi tries to turn every song into opera. Kookooloo likes to dance.

It is normal for parrots to join in when their is loud talking, loud music, pretty much any and everything that is loud, this make sense to me as they are flock creatures that must talk very loud if they are going to be heard by their parents, mates or by the rest of the flock which is also busy talking to each other as loud as they can. They really seem to like talking loud a lot.

I have vocal cord damage from taking so much prednisone over the years so I put a lot of air behind my words. Some people even think I am yelling. When my kids talk to me they talk louder than they do to other humans. They know so much more than they will ever get credit for.

That really goes to all animals. My old dog, Bruce, was deft for a few years before his end. His buddy Riddick used to bark into his ear to let him know that it was time to bark, such as when someone comes to the door.

I have had some loud parrots that got the other ones going Liz...lol...Its amazing i have any hearing left. Gaugan the Red Belly is a very quiet parrot she talks a lot in human language and her other vocalizaions are not very loud at all. Sunny on the other hand is louder and he will only make loud contact calls if I sleep in too late, then he is quiet the second I walk out. My husband wont do, it has to be me thats up.

My green chickens have started squawking in the afternoon. I don't mind loud sounds but the squawk is really offensive to my ears. I am working on changing the squawk to YooHoo.

I think the worst noise ever made for my poor ears waswhen Gaugan started copying the sound of the smoke detector when it went off. No wonder she did, we would run around and fan it with towels to get it to stop, it must have looked like a lot of fun to her. It took us months to break her of it, we had to just sit there and listen to the deafening sound of the smoke detector and look bored and now it is only once a year she even remembers that sound......lol.... the funniest one was when she copied the noise of the phone ringing and we would get up in the morning and run to answer the phone, she throught that was great fun.

Rambo has copied three different kinds of phone rings. What is really funny is when I pick up the phone he says "hellooo" and the person on the other end starts talking before I get it to my ear.
