I don't know a thing about canaries or what to expect from hand taming them, but I do know that if you get the Amazon that you will need to make sure that the canary can never land on the Amazons cage and that you may not be able to let them out of the cage at the same time. Those could easily be a disaster for the canary. Also Parrots tend to choose one person as their special human and how they react to other people varies greatly. For example Kookooloo my Grey parrot will not allow anyone other than myself touch her for any reason. Kiki my Senegal will go over and land on strange new people although she may or may not be nice after that, she just has to go and check them out. Mimi my Amazon has chosen my Lady as her special human and while I can handle her she prefers to only go to my Lady unless she is place on someone's arm under supervision. But she does try to avoid going to others at this time, in her defense I must say that she had many deeply rooted fears and problems when she came here that she has been working through.
Just trying to say that caring for a large parrot is much different than a canary.

Canaries are not really hand-tamed, they are naturally very mild birds that, although they don't imprint to people, have been domesticated and bred for hundreds of years by humans so they accept them as part of their natural environment. But you are right, Wolf, in that special care has to be taken about the canary landing on the amazon's cage because Lorre will rush to bite its feet and would probably amputate one with just one single chomp of his beak.

Don't worry, I'm aware that a canary is very different and Lorre won't be in the same room as the canary :)
