Ahhhh, poor, poor baby! If she had only come sooner to you, John, she might have made it. So many years of a bad diet takes its toll on a body and, when it reaches a certain point, liver damage is simply no longer reversible. I have seen the same thing happen to a couple of birds... they rally with a good diet but, after a while, the body can no longer take it and gives up.

Let me know what you decide on my proposition to you.

I'm wondering if I should even think about getting another bird. My Greencheek did not like having Tanya here. There was only about 6 months, and they did seem to be tolerating each other better just before she died, but Ocean did seem to get both annoyed and jealous at times, and even got sick with things that could be attributed to stress.

Also, she's tiny. If I had a bird like a TAG or CAG, she could get really hurt. If she flew onto the other cage, she could lose a foot.

How do you all manage multiple birds?

Carefully !!

Actually when I let them out they are more interested in being on me than just about anywhere else. But for the little ones like the parrotlets and budgies it is mostly a matter of getting to the cages of the larger birds quicker than the larger birds can get to the little birds.

Because you are a volunteer you can try a foster. I don't think you would need a quarantine since you already know the health of the birds.

They will call to each other from different rooms if they are interested in meeting. When cages are put in the same room you will know more. If they talk back and forth or call or scream together they are interested in being friends.

The Foster will be less traumatized because he already knows you. If it does not work you can take him back and still care for him at the shelter.

I have (so far) been able to get my birds to accept one another (I am still working on Freddy, Linus and Pookey though) but, if I were you, I would adopt a female little one (Ocean been a boy, right?) so the chance of them not only accepting one another but actually bonding is higher. It doesn't even have to be another GCC, it can be any of the pyrrhuras or even a small aratinga.
