I cut a piece of plexiglass to cover the top of the cage. That should keep her feet safe. It will also keep him from pooping in his food if he is up top.

Nicholas doesn't talk often, but when he does, he has a lot to say.

Here you can hear him asking for crackers, grapes, bananas, broccoli, and corn. He is also asking for Corrie, the facility manager of th rescue, and Maya, a DYH at the rescue.

Oh, shoot! I can't hear him! I put both volumes all the way up but I still can't distinguish what he says -not your fault though, it's me and my nerve-end deafness at work.

Ocean flew to the side of Nicholas' cage today and got her left foot bitten. She was holding it up, not perching on it, so we headed to the vet. Nothing is broken. She got lucky.

For the longest time, Kiki, Senegal would fly to the sides of Kookooloo's cage while Kookooloo was in it, luckily I was always able to get her off before she got her foot bitten. The top is a play area and came with an extra dropping pan so it is solid and not a problem. It took quite some time for Kiki to realize that if Kookooloo could get at her that Kookooloo would do her best to bite her and the only way that I was able to keep her from getting bit was to let the both of them out at the same time. This way she was able to check out Kookooloo's cage while Kookooloo was not in it, usually after Kookooloo had chased her off of me. I do not recall how long it took for Kiki to understand that Kookooloo did not like her, but now it is no longer a problem as Kiki will not fly to the sides of Kookooloo's cage if Kookooloo is in it.

Nicky doesn't really come out, yet. I hesitate to leave the cage open, because I'm afraid Ocean will just head right in.

She was caged all day yesterday, and today she has not flown over to his cage, at all. She may have learned her lesson. They seem to have a strong self-preservation instinct most of the time. Then there are other times when you wonder how the class of birds has survived. (I think it's a class. It's higher than an order, and the phylum should be Chordata.)

Just like any other intelligent and curious species, sometimes our curiosity over rides our good sense and we do something dumb.

I also think it has something to do with captivity and the fact that they don't learn survival skills from their parents when they are juveniles...
