African grays are weird birds - not that any other species of parrot is what one would consider a 'normal' pet but I do believe that grays have these out-of-proportion reactions to things and, sometimes, they are completely unexplainable!

I think the TAG are more layed back than the CAG, in general.

In my limited experience, they do seem to be... they also say that they are more independent than the Congos and not so high-strung and both things were true for Pookey but now she is the one giving trouble with her 'nerves' while Sophie CAG continues to be imperturbable!

Ocean looks so ratty this molt. She pulls at the down, and it sticks up in places.

Pellet companies suggest going to their "high potency" during molts. The stuff costs the same amount, so I don't think they're suggesting it for profit. What should I be adding or increasing to diets during a molt?

Feathers are created with protein and since most of our birds get too much protein, I would not increase that, but I would think that this is what I would increase if I thought it would help, Grey's like some other African species do use a slightly higher level of protein than New World birds. To see if Protein is the answer try adding a mealworm to his food each day while molting or adding a couple of extra tree nuts daily, That is what I think that I would do if anything.

Wolf, John is talking about Ocean GCC, not Nicky TAG. I would not change anything, John. I also would not pay a whole lot of attention to what pellet manufacturers say - it's not as if they are known for selling or recommending what is best for birds. Personally, I would never feed High Potency to any bird, regardless of the situation. I don't like dietary bombs... I would much rather go slow and sure than fast and questionable. Besides, a hard molt is caused by too much protein to begin with so adding protein and fat is not the answer. My Codee had a very mild molt this year and she is almost if not completely done with it, too.

John, the link is not working. When you hit it, it says that the video doesn't exist.
