That sounds like a good idea. Once your bird is asleep take all food and water out of it's cage and put that kind of food and water on the floor to attract them to the traps and away from you bird.

More and more mice!!! I have the victor Tin cat traps. I bought 6 of them. Still no luck.

There are mouse droppings in her water most days now. I'm going to have to go to glue traps soon. None of these other traps are working. If I have to use glue traps I'll check them all the time and drown any of the poor things i catch.

That means that there is a nest, probably in the wall. I was afraid that might be the case and mice are rather prolific breeders. Again I would look for their entrance hole and clean them out of the wall. other than that traps are your best bet for getting them out. The entrance hole is probably behind a dresser or in a closet, they normally try to hide the entrance to their nest so it is usually under or behind larger pieces of furniture or in a dark place where it is harder to see.

I think they might be living in my piano, somewhere.

You might be able to find some alright ideas to catch them here:

Where I volunteer one of the traps we use is actually to get a big tub filled with water and put a sheet of metal going into the centre- on the end of the metal there is a blob of Penut buter, or a whole penut, and just befor the bait there it is oily so as the rats fall into the tub. That has seemed to work alright.

This very similar idea was on the website above, I dont know, but it might be worth a shot, you yould want a bigger deeper glass than on this picture though, mice can jump pretty well..

Is this an upright piano or the other Grand style piano?

It's an upright. I saw a couple of smaller mice running around it the other night

If I remember correctly the bottom front panel where the three pedals are should be removeable easily and the front panel above the keyboard should also come off and then you may be able to see if they are there.

You normally have to open the top and there should be a pin of some sort near the middle to hold it half open for playing. You need to open the top in order to remove the front section which may be in two pieces. the upper part should flip backwards for removal and the lower portion of the front either just lays in place or may have a screw at either end that needs to be removed. The lower front should have a spring type clip that pushes up for removal of the panel. That is about all I remember about opening it up to inspect or repair it. Use a flashlight to look in and see if there is a nest there.

I have three words for you, John: Get a cat! :D I had lots and lots of mice because I forbid my husband from using anything but completely humane traps and, although I was catching some, because they are so prolific (the females can ovulate every two days!), I had more and more all the time so my husband finally agreed to let the cats loose (they had their own room where they lived) and that did it! They didn't catch that many but I guess the fact that they couldn't come out and eat during the night made them either stop procreating or they just decided to move out.
