Well just wanted all the helping people that I annoyed with all my frustrating posts sunny is stepping up on my shoulder for a pretty 9 out of 10 times I'm very excited but on more question how long do I keep using treats to do this with him?? I just don't want him to only do it for treats!!! And THANKS AGAIN!! LOVE THIS SITE AND EVWRYONE ON HERE IS VERY HELPING!!! :sun: :sun:

It really depends on the bird. I would give it a couple of weeks anyway and then start to cut back on the treats and start using praise for stepping up.

I really cannot answer that question based on any personal experience so, if I gave you and answer, it would be nothing but a guess - I never give them treats for stepping up, I just wait until they want to do it on their own.

I have not used treats for getting birds to step up either as I have never had a situation of the bird not doing it on their own once I have gained their trust. For me the first sign that the bird trusts me is that it will step up on its own.

Still animals, just like us are creatures of habit and if we started them stepping up through bribery then you need to allow them to turn stepping up into a habit and wean them off of the bribery and I can't conceive of that taking less than 2 weeks, it could take longer.
