Wolf is correct on the light issue. As to the air purifier... well, personally, I think that both a purifier and a humidifier are absolutely necessary for their health. Birds have incredibly efficient respiratory systems but their efficiency has a cost to it and this is that they are also extremely delicate so they need clean air to breathe - unfortunately, human homes don't really have clean air, especially if there is no good ventilation (as in two windows in different walls open so you get a current from one to the other that would 'clean' and replenish the air in the room). Now, depending on the species and its natural habitat, they might or might not require higher humidity than what is comfortable for people, especially during the winter with the heating that dries up the moisture out of the air. I don't use a humidifier and purifier during the spring and summer because, where I live, these seasons are naturally humid so I just leave the windows open but I have a humidifier running 24/7 during the cold months and I still turn on the purifier if I have to close a window.

I don't use the air purifier during the times that I can have the windows open so as to create an air flow. If I need to close the windows then I use the air purifier, A birds respiratory system is at least 20 times more sensitive than outs, at least that is what I have read and it also takes two times of breathing out before the first breath in come back out this is because birds do not have a diaphragm like we do and that the air must pass through the various air sacs in their body as well as through their lung. They get the most efficient air flow when breathing by flying and flapping their wings which sort of does for them what our diaphragm does for us in breathing.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I've decided not to purchase a pair of cockatiels because am not able to provide an air purifier at this moment.

I will try to look for another bird and do some research about them :)

I wish you did not purchase a bird but rescue one. It costs less to rescue but even those who want to rid themselves of their birds want money for them. Most are past puberty and have their own personalities. Even if a personality is bad it can be changed with love and care. Rescues are more rewarding. They change from being scared creatures to being your loving baby.

I had no intention of training my rescues. They were rescued to give them better than they had. All I wanted was for them to be happy. I did not "work" with them at all but they are starting to move toward me.

I would love to do that, and thanks for telling me, but there aren't any bird rescue center in my area :(
