Ahhhhhh, riiiiiiiiiiight... imprinting. Or MIS-imprinting. I recall Konrad Lorenz and the ducklings. They saw him during their "critical periods" and thought he was mommy/daddy. I'm sure the Rb was seeing people during his critical period.

Rambo and Myrtle have both claimed their favorites in the furry critters.
Rambo even calls for Riddick (dog). Myrtle wants to help me pet Jasmine (dog) and Squeakie my missing cat. A bond has formed between these critters.
I don't remember what critter it was that would go to the Cockatiel cage and Sweetie would go to the bottom to communicate with it.

That's beautiful.

The Rb seems to hate everybody and every being but me. I barely kept him sociable in the days when I had local friends who were bird people and would visit and handle him. Sexual maturity didn't help much either.

These days, he's my angry little rooster.

EXCEPT when we go to the vet... then, he will happily go to anybody he knows... whoever drives me or is with us. Any port in a storm, I guess.

Yes, that is the perfect metaphore for parrots in unfamiliar territory/situation: Any port in a storm! Loved it!
