Sun conures in community aviary?

Postby Sherlar » Sun Dec 09, 2018 10:35 am

Is it possible?
We have a fairly large aviary (5d x 8w x 7h) with 4 painted quail, 4 Lady Gouldian finches, 2 Fire finches, 2 Cordon Blue finches, and 2 Rosy Bourkes currently residing in it.
What we call the bird/fish room is actually a remodeled 3 car garage, so it's quite a large room, but with the aviary, 2 very large aquariums, several smaller bird cages, misc other small critter cages and a futon sofa, it seems small.
Is it possible to move either a m/f pair of sun conures, or a m/f pair of love birds in to the aviary and have everyone cohabitate peacefully?
We wouldn't want any potentially harmful squabbles, but it would be nice to have the extra space in the room.

Well, I would never put a psittacine with a passerine and it's not only because some of these species are territorial and making them share a 'territory' is extremely stressful to them [stress depresses their immune system and shortens their lifespan -aside from making them very unhappy] but also because they have completely different diets: passerines are natural seed eaters while psittacines cannot be free-fed any protein food so how are you going to manage that? Passerines need to have access to seeds all the time [super fast metabolism] and psittacines can only have a measured amount for dinner so, leaving aside the psychological and physical harm of the stress, you will be either starving your passerines or destroying your parrots livers and kidneys. I wouldn't even put the rosies in the passerine cage -the quails are OK because they don't go up and just remain on the floor.
