Article about an owner putting down a 10 year old cockatiel - but I don't understand why. I mean, the bird was only ten years old -the equivalent of a 25 year old human - way too young to die. And she talks about doing it to stop the pain but the bird was happy and playing with the vet's necklace to the end and, going by my experience, birds in pain do not look happy or play. People would sometimes put down animals that require special treatments or more attention/work just because it's inconvenient to them. I remember a story in the paper about a couple bringing their dog with Addison's to be put down at the vet. They did not even stay with the poor thing so the vet gave the dog to one of his technicians, who took it home, and kept it in treatment, healthy and happy for months and months until the couple found out. They actually went to court to get the dog back just so they could drop it to another vet to be put down! All I can say is that I hope their children put them in a real bad nursing home when they are old - heartless people!
