It might be a fun idea to work out some kind of exchange program for our members! I know there is different stuff available in different places. Something to think about. Good idea Kim!

That is a good idea, I think the only problem would be for food products. I know in Canada you cannot get/send food items FDA regulations.....not sure about overseas

I wonder what American customs will think if they get a sealed bag of white powder with the note that its parrot food supplements

No seriously, I'm contacting customs to see how hard this is going to be.

Edit:
This is rediculous! I called dutch customs, they sent me to the economic informational office, they sent me to three or four internal co-workers, the last one sent me on to a hepdesk for disposing of wasteproducts
That man was very helpfull, he gave me a couple of addresses that might give me more information. So I called the american embassy, they told me to call the US custums in Frankfurt (germany). While going through the menu the voice on the phone told me to go to the usps website.
So I ended up there, but I have no idea what I'm suppose to do here....

Edit 2:
I called dutch customs again, this time getting some body else on the line and he told me straight out that sendin arabic gum is not a problem. I asked him sending a sealed bag with white powder is not a problem. No ma'am.
Oke then....

Who wants mail? :airmail:

Wow! Way to go the distance Kim! I can see that dealing with officials in your country is just as difficult as it is here.

Maybe we should start up some kind of list or something so we can figure out who can get what where? I know that we can't get palm nuts in the U.S. which are supposed to be great for African parrots. I'm sure there is other stuff and I'm sure there is stuff we can get here that is difficult for you "foreigners"! :P

Edit: My fav parrotstore sells them, just around the corner. 9.04 dollar for 1.1 pounds.
Sorry for the dutch link, but it has a picture so you can see if this is the right one.

Yeah I think those are the ones! I know that the fruit of the palm is one of the big parts of wild Greys diets and probably our other African Parrots as well. I'll have to do a little research and see which one is actually the right one or if it even makes a difference which kind of palm nut you give them.

I used to be able to just go to the woods and get pine cones but I guess there aren't many coniferous forests around Austin.

Ah! That is where you are wrong and don't realize how lucky you are (I can't get them in Canada..)

There is a lady in Florida (I believe) who does sell palm nuts that she harvests herself and does ship them through the States. All you need to do is write to her thecozynestbox@gmail.com
She doesn't have a website, but she does have a YouTube channel showing off some of her birds enjoying some palm nuts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-1WR2dHXi0
