Senegal Parrot with Trust Issues

Postby Cahill » Wed Jul 28, 2010 8:23 pm

I recently acquired a Senegal Parrot that was not really being taken care of so well. It was sort of neglected and did not have much interaction with its owner. I've been taking care of it now for around two weeks and at first, the parrot was nice and would let me pet it but after two days, it became afraid of me for some reason and screams when I try to remove it from the cage. I've been working with him trying to get him to like me and trust me and I am able to get him out of the cage but he still screams a bit at first and jumps around the cage until he finally realizes that I am going to basically take him out. He will not let me pet him as he did the first two days and he flys around the room when I try to pet him and I'm afraid he will get hurt as he has flown into the wall and the window. He will let my girlfriend pet him though and he seems to like her. Is there anything I can do or methods that will help me to gain his trust as I want this bird to feel comfortable around me and actually create a bond? Thanks.
