Aggression between Lucy and Jessie

Postby lzver » Wed Aug 04, 2010 6:31 pm

Now that Lucy and Jessie are in their new bird room they are being allowed out of their cages more often. Over the last couple days, Lucy has been very curious and keeps flying over to Jessie's cage. I've been letting them go (with me very close by to intervene) to see what happens. I'm trying to see if Jessie gets to the point where he tolerates Lucy being on her cage ... maybe its the wrong place and maybe Jessie is just being territorial because its his cage.

I'm trying to get over my fear of letting them out together. For those of you that have multiple parrots that spend time out of their cages together do you have any advice? What is the best way to introduce them being out together and the best way to intervene if one or the other becomes aggressive. I don't want a vet visit to be the result.

Well if there is any chance one might be a bit territorial about their cage, on or around this cage is not the best idea. Try some more neutral ground.

i have this exact problem actually. female red belly, male(presumably) senegal. my sennie is very protective of his stuff. my red belly is forever curious about what my senegal is doing. sometimes i will have them on a tree together and she is very dominant over him, trying to play with him too rough and he just doesn't appreciate it and they duke it out til one walks away. other times they will preen and just sit by one another until the same thing happens again. it's totally hit and miss with these two, given who's having a good or bad day.

i don't know if this helps at all. lol. overall i will control their together time, but i don't let them near each other's cages anymore. nothing goes right when it's about the cages.
