Never looked at it before. My wife mentioned it but from what I've been told it isn't cost effective. Having said that, I just did a search and I didn't come across any in Australia that cover Parrots (Birds). They seem to all focus on Dogs and Cats.

At the end of the day, were willing to pay what ever Vet bills come our way if it means a health and happy feathered friend.

With pet insurance you have to be careful.
Not everything is covered by pet insurance and often, emergencies fall into that category...and what gets costly are those emergencies.

I find I'd be wasting my money more by paying the premiums..the money can go directly to the vet if I ever have to spend more than I first thought.

I would willingly shoulder a vet bill like that for Castiel. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised at how expensive medical emergencies can get. We came back from his first check-up a little while ago and that ran a somewhat shocking $300... I'm not expecting his future check-ups to cost that much, but it does help put into perspective what you need to have saved for in case something does indeed go wrong. Heaven forbid :(

yes i am prepared. i have quite a big savings plus an inheritance i have not touched i wont say the amount but its in the high 1000s i have also worked since i was 12 and have not spent a lot of money.

and yes i have forked out a major vet bill before for me previous rainbow lorikeet luka died i took him to the vet and they tried treating him and had him on all sorts of medience and treatment throughout the night but fortunately he died. they put it down to old age and old organs so nothing was treatable but they didn't know what until the autopsy afterwards. just because he died doesn't mean they vet bill goes. you also have to be prepared if you bird does not make it you will still be left with the bill which was $820

my vet has been my family vet for about 40 years hes extremely kind hes not like other vets you can take a sick animal into him and he will treat it without a thought and say u can pay it off when ever your ready. he actually cares about the animals

So far my highest was over $500 in vet bills for a budgie. Poor guy didn't survive, and I miss him, but I don't regret forking over all that money. Yeah, I'm definitely ready to shoulder such a bill.

I'd love to have pet insurance on our pets but with the amount of pets we have, the monthly premiums would probably equal a car payment or possibly even someone's rent for an apartment. Having said this (knock on wood) our pets have always been quite healthy. We did, however, have an unexpected vet bill for our Severe back in May and this *surprise* bill came out to be $922. Would I do it again? Of course! It's just one of those things we as pet owners need to do to try to provide the best we can for our precious little angels.

Just to be goofy...this post kind of makes me think of asking the question, "Hey guys, are you ready to buy food for your birds? You know you have to feed them, don't you???!!" :P

My most costly vet bill to date was for my cat, $800 for emergency surgery...if that tells you anything.

Well, I would think most people don't know the extent of the costs are. I had no idea it would be this costly. Luckily I have the means to pay for Truman's care but I was not prepared for this at all. So I would like to bring it up for others to be aware of.

Noted... I realized that a tad belatedly and literally right before you posted this response. It is a bit of sticker-shock!!!!
