Yes, thanks for the advice. We go in my backyard, which has a 4 four fence + 6 foot cedar trees, so I've never seen a cat in my yard, and I have 2 dogs, so cats stay away !

I don't think there are any birds of prey around here, but I'm watching anyhow. He's never alone one second.

Every spring and fall I put out a bird feeder, to help the critters fill up for breeding and travel...One day I just happened to be home looking out the window at the feeder. There were about 10 birds on it, little chickadees and some house finches so lovely.......then it happened. Right in front of me, a red tailed hawk swooped in, grabbed abird off of the feeder and flew to a tree to consume it!! It was awful. :o I don't think the birds on the feeder knew what hit them....My only consolation was, it is the circle of life....i suppose.

Anyhow, I know that when my bird arrives, he will never be outside in this area....I live near a large greenbelt park with many birds of prey, owls eagles and hawk (bears and coyote too) so Mr. Darcy's outdoor time will be very closely supervised... :geek:

Just (Pardon the pun) food for thought!

Yeah, I know. I wouldn't do it either if some butcher had not completely cut all of his wing feathers when I got him. Not 1 feather was left intact. So when he molts, there will be no more of that. Plus, I bought an Aviator Harness, which I'm hoping he'll get used to. So no danger !

Anyways, thanks for the concern.

I have seen reports on the internet of hawks snatching birds from people's shoulders, so still be wary even with the harness.

I am sure your bird will be aware of the hawk before you so monitor the behaviour...

Well, thank you but there are no hawks around here... Biggest I've seen are pigeons!

It was more of a warning for other people.

However, just because you may live in a city, does not mean they dont come.

McGill university has a different opinion:

Those that are most likely to be seen in suburban (and sometimes urban) areas are: American Kestrel, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, Merlin, Cooper's Hawk and Red-tailed Hawk.
