I think it's best if you start off with just one for the beginning and see how things go. Take it slow and work on trust and bonding with that one first, and if you feel like it needs a companion, you will have time to see what's best for it based on its personality and needs.

On a side note to Kim S about keeping budgies and tiels together in one cage: I agree with you completely. What happened in my case was that my birds ignored the separate cage set-up and moved in together on their own. I would have never forced them to do it, nor do I encourage it.

Kim S measured my cage - it is not very huge, bnut not very small either. Should be ok, I guess :) L=67cm, H=46cm, W=34cm

Thats sounds about right for one tiel. I have a minimum of 30 x 40 x 50 cm (12 x 16 x 18 inches) for a cage. But its too small for two tiels. So if you want to get another one you need a bigger cage.
Thanx for putting it in the metric system! That saves me a lot of converting :D
