Feather growth

Postby sidech » Sat Sep 04, 2010 11:16 pm

I took my 5 months old baby Brown head to get his nails trimmed today. The lady looked at his wing clip, and said it was cut really short (which I knew already), and that they had clipped 9 or 10 feathers. When I used to get my Quaker clipped, I think we touched 3, 4 at the most.

I suppose the breeder (or the pet store) did this when he was really young, because I got him at 3 months and he was like that. My question is : how long will it be before he gets new feathers in, and will he be able to fly like any normal parrot ?

Because of the configuration of my house, I won't be able to let him fly fully, but I'd like him to be able to move around better. Right now it's just ridiculous, he drops.

Thanks !

to my knowledge the feathers dont 'grow' but whit moulting the clipped feathers will fall out and new feathers will grow in. but take extra care and attention that the feathers are growing in properly if the feathers are growing in with no support from the others they can twist and then cause the others to grow in funny and damaging them. im sure michael can answer this better than me because of kili when she was clipped

Yes, of course, those clipped feathers will never grow. I was asking about the new ones.
