I'm so sad - toughest decision

Postby sidech » Sun Sep 19, 2010 10:14 am

Even though this is breaking my heart, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot have my baby in my house anymore. He is causing me severe allergies that cannot be controlled, even though I have increased my medication up to 4 times what I usually take.

It is getting so bad the asthma is waking me up in the middle of the night. Worse part, my 12 year old son has the same problem also. I'm fine during the day at work, but as soon as I get home, the asthma starts. This is not a life, either for my baby or me, because this is causing me to not want to be near him as much, and he is a very cuddly bird.

He won't go to just anybody. I'm in no rush to get him out, and I will take the time to screen his future home. I want someone who has experience with birds, not because he is difficult, he is not, but because I want to make sure the persone knows what she's getting into, so he will have a home for life.

If you know someone who would be interested, please PM me.

Here are some details :

Brown Headed Parrot (5 months old)
Born on april 21st, 2010
Handfed
Very tame and affectionated
Can be petted everywhere on his body, including head, beak, back, underwing, wings

Steps up and runs out of his cage as soon as you open the door
Not scared of anything, including vaccuum cleaner, dogs...
Eats pellets mostly, and Tropimix
Eats fruits and vegetables every day, loves it

TRaining started to wear Aviator Harness, going well
Toilet training started, going well
He was vaccinated and seen by a vet the day after I got him (I have papers)

I can provide videos so you can see how tame he is, and pictures.

I can meet the person along the way, if too far.

He will NOT be free, I need someone who will be totally committed.

Thanks Michael !

Well, if Natacha is considering a Brown Head, she certainly would be a good home for Zoulou !

Oh no! That is too bad. :( I am sorry you have to do this....Is it the dust/dander on the bird that causes the problem?

I am sure you will find and awesome home for him. Good Luck!

Yes, I believe it is the dust. I don't really see it, but it's in the air.

I didn't know I was allergic to parrots because I had one before, but my house then was about 3 times bigger than this one, so that is probably why I didn't have any problems, and my son either.

I wish it was that simple... I have one already, and even if it completely eliminated the dust in the air, I still wouldn't be able to snuggle with Zoulou, kiss him, pet him, because that is what gives me the most problems.

Oh I was also going to suggest getting an air purifier but if you have one..

See, I am allergic to the dust that my mom's African Greys and Cockatoos generated (now there was quite a few of each and they are very dusty birds so you can imagine..). When she got a few air purifiers, I was perfectly ok going in their room and spending them with them, which included cuddling with the 'toos, and again, I was ok.

If it's not too indiscreet, which air purifier do you have (brand and model)?

It is the Bionaire QuieTech Hepa Filter, BAP625, I think, because I don't have the box for it anymore.
