Is your parrot a bather?

Postby Michael » Fri Sep 24, 2010 1:07 pm

Does your parrot enjoy bathing? What's the species and what kind of bathing does it enjoy (shower, bowl, sink, etc)? How often?

For the poll, vote yes if your parrot seems to enjoy or look forward to bathing experiences.

Red Belly and Senegal enjoy bathing on their own terms - in their water dishes when they feel like it. Aside from that, they don't like to be forced into bathing or being misted.

Kika (senegal) is a funny one. He dives into his waterbowl every now and then. But when I take him with me to take a shower he hates to get sprayed (2 or 3 times a week). He tolerates the spray just to be close to me, but thats about it. He always looks like he's moping afterwards

My Amazon would shower with me every day if I let him. He has a shower perch and he loves running in and out of the direct spray of the water. And he loves going upside down and holding his wings open to catch as much water as he can.

My Gold Capped Conure doesn't bathe, at least not that I see. I've tried bathing him in the sink and he barely tolerates it, I haven't tried the shower with him yet because his previous owner said he dislikes it. They said he would bathe once in a while in his water dish but I've never witnessed him bathing on his own yet.

My GCC likes the kitchen sink and his water dish as soon as I change the water. Maybe 2-3 times a week. Hates the shower and misting from the bottle.

The Red Belly loves misting, it's funny when I spray away from him and no drops are hitting him he still shakes his head. Once a week I'll put a big bowl in his cage and he loves it too.

Both Jake and Scarlet LOVE to bath. Jake likes any dish/cup with water in it, but his favorite place to bath is in the bathroom sink. Scarlet prefers to be misted, but she also uses a big doggy dish whenever I vacuum (she was using her water dish but physics just weren't on her side :) )

Scooter, our GCC, LOVES bathing. He gets all excited when he hears running water. His favorite method is the bathroom sink with a gentle stream and the drain closed, so the water level rises. He goes back and forth under the stream and then splashes around in the pool. I've never seen him in the water bowl, but I expect he does that too, as he started to occasionally smell like vinegar when I started putting that in the water.

Scotty, well, I just posted about that.

I voted "yes" as we seem to be 50/50, so I weighted by length of acquaintanceship.

If she could, rainbow would bathe multiply times a day  I switched her to a water bottle though so now she has to wait till I give her a bath in the sink. She hates being misted tho.... my tiel was the exact opposite. she Loved wet green bathes and misting, going all out by puffing up and spreading her wings out to catch every drop. Rainbow just loves to dive in and out of the water and scream a lot...

Cody my Senegal seems to bath about once or twice a week, mostly on his own terms. He really loves bathing in a bowl and not just any bowl, a pasta bowl. Then as if he couldn't get enough, dunks himself in his own water dish as well. He doesn't like being misted very much. I keep trying though.
