My sun Kiwi is a bather head first in his water dish . Now... i just was watching Jake BF Amazon tried to emerge his big ole self in his small water dish I laughed so hard. My question is how do I go about putting Kiwi in the shower with me . ? :sun: Since she has never been in the shower before . Do i put her on something or do i leave her on my shoulder , finger ect.
Thanks for your help!

I don't think I'd just charge into the shower cold turkey with the bird on my shoulder. They do make special shower perches, but I've also heard it suggested that a (secure) shower curtain rod can make a good place to introduce the shower. For scooter I got a suction cup soap dish he can perch on, but the shower turned out to be a bit too much for him.

You know, I've been wondering about taking the birds in showers too. Do people like shower with the birds on a perch? Or do you just put them on their perch and let them shower online. The idea of being completely "exposed" to my parrots seems like a pretty embarrassing thing. I mean, I feel bad whenever I have to change in front of them!

I don't know very much about parrot/shower etiquette.

Wouldn't the water be too hot for them?

I'd love to have Einstein get a shower. I've tried giving him a water dish, and I even bought a spray bottle. He ignored the water dish, and he HATES the spray bottle. Thank God the budgies took to the spray bottle, so at least they can get a misting.

When I've gone into the shower with the bird, he's seen me in my altogether, a sight that would probably send many running for the hills... but seriously, they don't wear clothes in front of us... and I don't think they have any sense about being modest. If anything, I'd think clothes would weird them out, since we appear to change our plumage daily. I did not notice Scooter reacting in any way to my nakeditity (to quote Radar) -- he was just wondering what the whole shower thing was all about.

Now, I would be careful carrying a parrot on a naked shoulder in the shower -- you don't want the soap getting on their feathers, you don't want them slipping, and if the nails are not recently trimmed, the process of not slipping could be rather more painful than when clothed. Plus the water force and temperature of a shower may be too much for some birds, and IMO you want them to be able to see that it is OK before you ask them to go on and get wet.

Lychee LOVES baths. She just can't get enough of it! :D She'll try to climb down my hand to the water if the tap's running. And of course I get my dosing when she shakes the water off on me when sitting on my shoulder after a bath. Oh well, I still love her :)

I'm not sure how to vote, Akilah tries to take a bath in her small water dish, just dunking her head/chest in it and fluffing up, and she likes being misted. But she will not try any of the other larger bathing containers I've offered. She screams like mad when trying to take a bath in the dish, must be frustrating for her!

Windy loves to bath.. in the shower... This has been a very calming time out for us always away from the cats.. When I first got him we worked on things in the bathroom with the shower running away from the hubbub of the cats...

Now I read out loud while he showers..still something I enjoy doing with him very much.

Sometimes he joins me for my showers.. but that's not as relaxing for me

Willow doesn't really seem to like showers as much... unless he really really is feeling the physical need for it. So when he sticks his face in the water dish and starts trying to bath.. up we go..

Both are tiels.

Merlin is very definitely a bather. He loves run around his bathing bowl with his head in the water and his wings spread slightly, kind of like a little green feathered submarine!
