Noise (please help)

Postby ParaStripe303 » Thu Sep 30, 2010 10:26 pm

Ok, just in case the following info is required to answer my question I have a 8 month old parakeet and he is a male.
This is probably common but he often makes a grunting sound when I hold him and I just want to make sure I am not doing something with him he doesn't like is my concern-it may even be a good thing......
he makes it randomly when I hold him but mainly when I pet him.
Any ideas or thoughts?

Could it be a sound of contentment? Like bird purring? Ahahahahaha!

When my parakeet is happy he's either singing or squeeking. When I hold him (like you would if you were checking him out or clipping his wings) he grunts and is decidedly not happy.

Does he sound like a little piggie? If so that seems more unhappy than happy.

My GCC makes a little piggy noise when he's getting his head scratched, and sometimes when we're training. His behaviour tells me it's a contented "this is the life" sound, but I'd be curious if anyone else has other input?

Could it be beak grinding? That is a contentment/relaxation sound and it can sound a little like a grunt.

Mine's definitely not beak grinding, for that he makes a very different sound.
