That is comforting to hear. I've read in several places that parrots need 10-12 hours of sleep per day. I wonder how much of that they need at night. We typically put Kalki in his sleeping cage around 8:30 and he is awake at sunrise, which is around 7:30 here this time of year. We'd like to keep him up longer to have more interaction, but don't want to deprive him of sleep.

How long do people have their birds sleeping? Quick poll?

12 hours is the recommended duration of uninterrupted sleep. Then they'll nap during the day on top of that. My birds get 12 hours (well just a little less cause by the time I cover them and whatnot but that's what I aim for). The cages get covered at 9:30PM and uncovered at 9:30AM. Depending on the weather, they'll either relax or sleep midday.

I try to remember to put them to bed at 8:30 or 9 and then if we are up earlier (the joys of a semi-acdemic job, we may not be!) don't disturb them much before that. Both will sleep until we open up the office room. Having the blinds closed is apparently enough. But both were long-term store birds, so maybe they are grateful to have any darkness at all!
