Parrot diet

Postby allcraigs » Sat Oct 23, 2010 5:12 pm

Thanks for the opportunity to speak about parrots, as am craze of birds (Parrots)!
Having two white colour parrots for the last 2 years and I love them much. I only offer fruits like Gova, Red chilly, Little finger, Carrots, Potatoes, which they generally intake. Besides the above what are to be given, as i don`t want to take risk just by feeding an unwanted diet. Please advise. :D

In my opinion feeding pellets (a good brand maybe organic) would benefit the birds a great deal. THey may not be getting all the nutrients required from just the foods you are offering. I have read alot of books and all suggest fresh fruit and veggies (green leafy) with 60 % pellets and some seeds Try to minimize sunflower seed as they are very high in fat so maybe just for training treats.

I bought the book "Birds for dummies" (not parrots) it is written by an avian vet and has tonnes of great advise...

Good Luck

I got "Parrots for Dummies" and am looking to recycle it. Was not impressed. The author has a tendancy to state opinion as fact, which makes me crazy these days. I'll have to check out "Birds for Dummies"!

There is a TON of stuff in the Heath, Nutrition and Diet section of this forum. All kinds of opinions... I strive to feed a mix of fresh foods, nuts/seeds and pelleted food, but it doesn't seem to work out that way....
