Sorry guys, been a bit busy lately.

I used to keep all my tiels and budgies together in one big flight, seperating the pairs I wished to breed. But I noticed that my tiels breed much better when kept in a breeding flock. So this year I decided to seperate the tiels and budgies. I have one big aviary for my tiels and one for my budgies.
We see what happens next year when the temperature is better for breeding. All my tiels are kept outside, so no breeding in winter.
The budgies are kept indoors in the winter, so I breed budgies in winter as well.

Last couple of years have been pretty crappy though. I have been having a lot of trouble with bloodlice. Thats why I prefer breeding budgies in winter, the lice arent that active this time of year.
But, as if the devil is playing with it, we have a mice plague in our part of the city. They get into the breedingcages and bother the birds. Cant seem to get rid of them.

captwest wrote:Hey Shani, my mother had a amazon when we were growing up, when i got older living in panama i wantd a parrot, rather than buying one from the indians in the market i took one from a nest, and some how she survived my handfeeding, of course a lot of my friends wanted birds after meeting mine, she went everywhere and did everything with me including going to school, bar hopping, fishing, motorcycleing etc, As there were many different type of parrots/macaws around my family and friends tryed them all, and i just kind of learned as i went along. When i moved back to the states it was after Cities and i was limited as to how many and what types i could bring back, i brought back my 1st bird a Panama amazon and so did a friends sister, i ended up with her bird and it bonded to my pet and they started layig eggs and i ended up in the bird business. I didn't pursue it very hard til my kids were grown and my 2nd wife (a texas country girl) decided she really loved amazons, of course in the bird world you run into rescue birds and we started taking them in and our flock grew.(like a snowball rolling down a mountian). Anyway i don't spend all of my time in the ocean anymore and Josie and i basically tend our flock 24/7. not that we make any real money but it makes us happy and gives a lot of satisfaction in doing it right, with healthy happy babies.

That's an awesome story Captwest. I've been trying to think of a good response to it for a while - but yeah, it sounds like you and your wife have found something that you truly want to do - a 'calling' so to speak. You're very lucky to have found that. You should post some pictures/videos of all your birds! :D Barney and I would love to see them.
