hi
theres a pretty bad storm going on right now and im worried about milo (my gcc). so as the subject thingy says, how are they with storms?? i was upstairs and with the thunder from earlier on i thought my house was falling down!-yes it was THAT loud :? no one is going to be in the house for at least 6 hours so im stressing that hes going to be okay with the storm. as whats worrying me even more is that my parents had 4 cockatiels and once there was a storm and my parents went out and when they got back, all four were dead! :(
please help!

Wow. So far both our birds have handled weather fine including howling wind. But this is a fairly benign climate modulo earthquakes.

I guess I doubt birds would perish from weather stress, could lightning strike nearby causing smoke or an electrical surge causing same have been responsible? Or a first storm of season resulting in use of a new or defective heater?

I am confident Milo won't let a storm scare him to death--if he is like Scooter he will try to scare the storm to death! GCCs seem in general to be too brave for their own good!

i agree with entranced, but if lighting starts i suggest closing the curtains to block out the sudden light flashes

i do it with my birds i never covered them because of a storm i dont know if that would do more harm than good. but definatly closing the curtains to keep lighting flashes out

Never had a problem with the weather and my animals...though I remember we had an earth quake earlier this year. I remember the budgies went really quiet right before it, but no harm was done.

That's a horrible thing with those poor tiels :<

This isn't something I've given much thought to, but when we had a bit of a storm a week or so ago, Barney got pretty excited. He wasn't stressed though - he decided it was bath time and proceeded to fling water everywhere until I got him out and gave him a mist. He does this every time it rains as well... Oh yeah, he also tried to 'talk' to the thunder which was pretty cute.

I totally understand your concern though - I wish I could offer some advice to you. I'd be worried about leaving him unsupervised during a storm as well, but I think Entranced is pretty spot on. Try not to freak out about it :)
