Any good Senegal parrot books/websites?

Postby type.rst » Thu Dec 16, 2010 8:01 pm

Hello guys i have decided to go for a baby senegal parrot after alot of research online. I have purchased and read a book called 'guide to the senegal parrot and its family' by Mattie Athan and Dianalee Deter.

Does anyone know of any other good books specifically about the Senegal parrot? I have visited most websites by searching Senegal parrot in google. But if anyone can recommend any website then that would be great.

Thanks people.

Actually, you've already read the best book I know of specific to Senegals and this is the best website I've come across for Senegal information as well so you're doing great so far! Here is a link that has a ton of other links to various parrot related websites and there is some stuff specific to Poicephalus.

Thank you for your reply. I have just bought another book from Ebay called 'the bird keepers guide - senegal parrot' by Tammy Gagne.

Don't bother buying any more books cause they all say pretty much the same general stuff. Once you've read one you've read them all. Take the book's advice with a grain of salt cause it is just one author's perspective. An awesome thing about this forum is that you can check out what dozens of Senegal Parrot owners have to say.

Here are a couple great resources on this forum to get you started:

Senegal Parrot Information and FAQ
Senegal Parrot Biting and Aggression Issues
Senegal Parrot Comparison for Senegal Parrot Owners

Also here's a quick summary about the Senegal Parrot:

http://poicephalus.org/senegal_parrot.php

I think every Senegal Parrot owner should read the Guide To the Senegal Parrot, but that is just the beginning. There is much more that can be learned beyond that, however, the book provides a lot of good requisite knowledge.

If you haven't already, you should read every article on Mona's website:

There's a pretty nice site by a man named Keith (if I recall correctly) about his experiences with his Senegal, Pepper.

Pepper -- A Senegal Parrot

If you have any questions he posts frequently on the BirdTalk forums Bird Channel under the handle "Pepper'sPa."

To be honest, though, this forum and Michael's blog have been the best sources of information for me, and I even own a few parrot and clicker training books. Michael's great at really breaking things down into the tiniest steps and the best part are those videos he posts. It's one thing to read about training a bird but it's a million times more helpful to actually observe someone interacting with a parrot in real time.
