I have an electric heater near my parrot's cage to keep it a bit warmer in the winter. It is an oil filled one. I would never get one with expose elements (the ones that basically look like an open toaster) cause dust can burn in them and they may have teflon. I am fairly certain the oil filled ones that basically look like a normal radiator seem to be quite safe.
