5 new little GC YS babies :-)

Postby DavidIsrael » Sun Apr 03, 2011 2:05 am

I thought I'd share some of my work with you guys.
3 days ago I brought home 5 little Green Cheek Yellow sided babies.
The oldest is about 15 days old and the youngest is about 5 days old. VERY SMALL.

Here are the five of them :-)

These guys are a true magic, they grow from this size to full size by the time they are about 6-8 weeks old. Because of their tendency to use their beaks all day long, they are great at weaning, specially when they wean on pellets like in my case.

My mother specially remembers them because they used to chase her around my room for attention. GC are very fun at this age. They remind me a lot of the senegal but even the senegals are a bit more gentle than they are.

I bought a breeding pair just about two months ago but it's winter and they haven't gone to working yet. These guys were bought from another breeder with a few pairs. These guys are all brothers and sisters from the same parents. I can't wait to have my own pair start working. We're entering spring so .. should start anytime now.

I'm attaching a picture of the last 3 babies I weaned..

It's hard to imagine my little GCC ever looked like that! He still chases me from room to room looking for attention, so I don't think he's grown out of that stage yet!

It is really amazing how fast they grow up! Almost like watching time-lapse photography. bmsweb posted a series of a clutch of GCCs growing up and it was just remarkable.

The little ones are growing nicely. They are all very cute.
They make all kind of noises in this age, all of which are gone when they get to about 3-4 weeks.
From when they are about one month old and until weaning, you mostly hear them make small noises, most very funny - they are the loudest when you turn off the lights.

I'll get you some new photos soon.
