Cool new bird carrier--disguised as fanny pack

Postby k9shrink » Thu Apr 07, 2011 3:13 pm

Hi everyone,

I live in Istanbul and take our parrot out in harness on my shoulder all summer. But I needed to have somewhere to put her when I went into restaurants, museums, public transport, etc. So I came up with a design for a fanny pack carrier, and sent my idea to Celltei.

They mailed me a prototype, which I tested, modified, and greatly enjoyed.

I just saw on their website that they're now going public with them. The Birdie Pouch is on the main page (http://www.celltei.com) and on its own page (http://www.celltei.com/birdiepouch.html). The bag got 2nd place for bird products at the Global Pet Expo. You can carry it as a fanny pack or put the bird on your shoulder--for a great view and closeness, but without danger of the bird flying off or biting your ear or lip (don't ask).

All the photos are of me and Clover. I HIGHLY recommend this pack. It is sooooo well made! They thought of everything (and what they didn't think of, I had them add). :P For instance: a bar for the parrot to grab with his/her beak if off balance, several perch heights, and a front port for feeding treats.

The size is very roomy for anything from a parakeet (budgie) to cockatiel to conure sized.

It is acceptable for short-term use (<2 hours) for African Greys, Amazons, and maybe Gallahs. Great for quick car rides, short airplane rides, getting on public transportation in the city, and sneaking your bird into supermarkets and restaurants. :-)

Is it soft or hard? Like can it be squished? I'm looking for one for when my budgies get trained, and that looks really convenient, but I want to make sure it won't be able to get squished in any way.
