I just aquired two unbanded birds and my vet suggested microchip instead. Someone mentioned tatooing.... I know how painful this isso I cant imagine doing it to a bird. Are their any other visible ways to id my birds? I dont plan on loosing them but I know most people need to SEE proof before tney worry over someones pet and help it. :amazon:

Tatooing really isn't worth it, don't go there plus it wont necessarily be visible without a lot of restraint of the bird.
Go with the mini microchips if anything (not the full size ones) but make sure a really really experienced avian vet does it.
Other than that you can get split rings, but these can be just as easily removed and occasionally will irritate an older bird who isn't used to wearing one.
Take clear, close up photos of anything that may identify your birds such as unusual markings.

Not a lot else you can do I'm afraid.

My avian vet prefers not to microchip smaller birds (conures downwards) as there's a chance of the microchip moving. Also he only does this to fully grown adult birds of all varieties for the same reason.
