I always ask people who say that they eat meat in the wild to point me to a video or a picture from a reliable source or the account of a field biologist that has observed them eating carrion and nobody has ever been able to do that (most likely because there isn't anything but this stupid rumor that people keep on repeating without even checking on it).

The truth is that it would be virtually impossible for a parrot to find a fresh kill that was unattended by either the predator that killed it or the scavenger that drew away the predator -fresh kills are super duper high value food items for meat eaters and there are just a few species that can actually eat carrion without getting sick.

That idiot even said they were canibals. As soon as I can I will contact Red Dog and tell them about her. Red Dog is an established rescue. This woman has cages all over her house. She was cooking with 3 birds just a few steps away.

Maybe you should contact the office that handles animal cruelty because this woman sounds like a hoarder to me...

She admits that she gets birds that people want to give up and sells them.

Then she is what we call a 'flipper' or 'broker' and needs an USDA license which require annual inspections. We had one in the Poconos and she also called herself a 'rescue' so she could get discounts from the vets and deduct her expenses from her taxes but she also got a license from the USDA (anybody breeding or selling animals needs one). I hate people like them with a passion! They are the ones that give rescuing a bad name!

Those two don't play together and Rambo acts like he does not like her but they are bonded in their own way.

I am back in NC. Before I left I went through the neighbor hood and spread the word that I heard a cockatiel on the loose. They all said they would listen for it but I did not hear it those last two days.
My kids have a perch right in the window and a screen so they hear everything outside. I hung a small cage on the other side of the window and filled it with food and water. My son checks it and keeps the food and water fresh.

I made a list of their 13 names and put a note on Amos and Andy. Even if they don't know which bird is which if they say the name the bird will hear and calm down. The cockatiel sitter did something that I did not think to do. He counted them and there were only twelve. That bird on the loose is mine. I don't have any idea how it got out unless I did not see it pass me in the door and an outside door was open. They don't know which cockatiel is which so I don't know who is missing.

I was trying to give them a better life and they do seem to like me coming in their room. But I messed up and lost one. This hurts. I can't make the trip again until May first and it is torture.
My only hope is that it goes back to the cage for food and water until someone sees it.

The neighbor beside me has four birds. Two cockatiels and two budgies. She said she only planed on two cockatiels but a budgie showed up one day so she bought another. It would be really great if it went to her. She has hers in a screened in Florida room so her birds can be heard a long way and might call mine in.

Yes, counting is the only way when you have so many. I used to do it twice a day when I had the large flocks (quite hard to do when you have birds flying all over the place and most of them look the same from a distance).

If he finds water and food, he will be fine for a while as the weather is not that cold anymore.

It is warm there and has been since February. Plants have already produced seed and we are surrounded by water. My fear is hawks.
